The Spanish government has authorized the acquisition of up to 45 Turkish trainer jets Hürjet, marking the first international export of the aircraft. The units will be produced in Turkey and undergo adaptation with Spanish subsystems and components at Airbus facilities in Spain.

Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028, with service entry scheduled for 2031, and they will be integrated into the Spanish Air and Space Force’s Integrated Advanced Flight Training System (ITS-C).

The project is part of a larger defense plan, with a budget of $4.31 billion, which includes the acquisition of 168 additional aircraft and helicopters, along with investments in ground-based simulation systems.

The Hürjet, equipped with a F404-GE-102 engine and capable of reaching Mach 1.2, will have both training and light combat functions, offering a new standard of training for Spanish pilots. The Spanish configuration will be gradually integrated, ensuring technological autonomy and strengthening the national industry.

Spain already evaluated Hürjet prototypes in 2024 and formalized the jet’s selection as the replacement for the F-5M. Spanish companies such as Airtificial, Aernnova, GMV, Indra, ITP Aero, and Sener are involved in the manufacturing of components and project adaptation. The aircraft will be allocated to Wing 23 at Talavera La Real Air Base, forming the primary training unit of the Fighter and Attack School, with an expected operational life of at least 30 years.
